Find fine coffee at Browns of Brockley and Good as Gold. Brickfields is spot on for cocktails, and we rate Brockley Brewery and Joyce highly too. Nunhead - with its high street and village feel - is really close as well: here we like BARD4100 pizzas/bar, Ayres bakery, Mother Superior wine store/deli, and FC Soper wet fish shop, as well as El Vermut and The Old Nun's Head. New Cross is close too (walk 12 minutes) - with its handsome historical buildings, and growing number of pubs and eateries - including The Rosemary, The Rose Inn, The Earl of Derby (the roasts are recommended) and The Amersham Arms. Thanks largely to Goldsmiths University, New Cross attracts a cool creative crowd and even has its own contemporary art gallery! Plus a strong book shop: The Word. Deptford High Street and Broadway are no great distance either - for classy restaurants like Marcella, and there are cute bars and eateries in Deptford Market Yard; Salt is particularly great for casual pizzas and beers. And lastly, trendy Peckham is easily reached for loads more options.
