GORGEOUS COUNTRY COTTAGE - WITH FABULOUS KITCHEN - IN ENVIABLE VILLAGE LOCATIONAn extended, 3-double bedroom, Grade II-listed, part-thatched cottage, with extensive loft space and a beautiful oak-framed room which opens to a super garden, complete with insulated, timber building (ideal for an office) and plenty of gravelled parking space. Foxwood Cottage is in as peaceful a position as you could wish for, within the delightful, North Bedfordshire riverside village of Stevington. Yet it's within easy reach of every facility. What a find!Far enough away from major roads to escape constant traffic noise, yet close enough to make it easy for travelling, Stevington is only 6 miles from the County town of Bedford, with its fast trains to London in under 40 minutes and its world-renowned Harpur Trust private schools. Catchment schools are just 2.5 miles away. There's a good bus service, as well as the Villager minibus to various destinations, including the market town of Olney.Foxwood Cottage is set off a quiet, no through lane, in a little enclave with just a handful of other lovely, individual homes, including its attached neighbour which was once part of the same farmhouse. The Holy Well beneath the Saxon Church of St Mary is at one end of the lane, the ancient cross at the other, both hinted at in John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress. Kathy Brown's Garden, "a cornucopia of British flora and fauna", lies in between. Two great pubs, each offering something different, are also just a short stroll away, and the award-winning community shop, where you can stock up and meet friends for coffee, is a few yards along the lane at The Church Room. Playing fields and play park are at the village hall, five or six hundred yards from your front door. But it's the wonderful walks in the countryside all around you; it's the beautiful bluebell woods; it's Stevington Windmill, the only complete windmill in the county; and it's messing about on the river (there's even a boat club here), that all add to that special feeling about living in Stevington and the feeling of good fortune that life at Foxwood Cottage brings you.MORE ABOUT THE PROPERTY A magnolia tree in full, fragrant bloom, purple wisteria wending its way above an open porch, with its bench seating and red brick floor, set between early C18th stone and thatch and late C20th rendered walls and clay pantiles, all combine happily in many a person's image of their perfect home in the country.Step inside and that image is only reinforced. Plenty of space, height and light in rooms that, whether old or new, are full of eye-catching character. That winter walk with your dog along field footpaths that begin yards from your front door is the more enticing by the thought of coming home to logs ablaze in the sitting room stove. The wonderful, inglenook bressummer beam, with its ancient, ritualistic 'taper burn marks', together with other, beautifully restored, oak timbers, ledged and braced doors, unusual niches and lovely window seats, add to the feeling of warmth that Foxwood Cottage exudes throughout. With space for a dining table in the sitting room, dinner parties can either be here or in the kitchen. There are two utilities, but one could easily be a study.Rooms are flexible as well as beautiful. Shower room downstairs, bathroom upstairs. One bedroom has ladder access to a huge, fully boarded room in the loft fabulous teenage quarters, or something more? Sit on the low sills of two of the bedrooms to enjoy the magnolia blossom, spring out of bed in the main bedroom to views of the old school and the far-reaching countryside beyond.Space to be on your own, including the timber office outside, and for family and friends to come together, not least in the superb kitchen, with its gorgeous limestone floor and quartz, its handbuilt furniture, oak-topped island, table for eight and beautiful, oak-framed garden room. Cook, breakfast, dine, relax and party in a special space that opens through French doors to a larger than expected garden.Follow sun or shade to different sitting areas either close to the cottage, through the passionflower arch or under the vine-bedecked pergola. Cherry blossom and Sambucus vie for attention. Birdsong fills the air, bees buzz over colourful raised beds. Delightful! WONDERFUL 17TH CENTURY FARMHOUSEFalling in love is the easy part. Such a romantic setting and beautiful to look at. It's the loving care that demands a little more effort and investment. But the rewards will be worth it. Standing within 2.25 acres of land devoted to an attractive combination of formal and informal gardens, lawns, orchard and copse, Manor Farm House is located in the lovely Bedfordshire village of Bolnhurst. Oozing with character, with at least 5 bedrooms, and over 2,600 square feet in the main building, plus a barn that's just short of 100 feet long, as well as a double garage, there's abundant space even if you weren't to extend. In the same family for nigh on half a century, this is a rare opportunity indeed to create a family home that is truly special. The parish of Bolnhurst and Keysoe lies about 6.5 miles from the county town, its outstanding Harpur Trust private schools, and fast trains to the capital and further afield. Major towns and cities, such as Cambridge, are within easy reach. Surrounded by glorious countryside, with many fabulous walks and cycle rides, there's a super little primary school serving both villages, which are within the catchment area of the highly thought-of Sharnbrook Academy. And could it be any better than to be able to stroll to the renowned Plough, the handsome, medieval building housing a superb restaurant, with its Raymond Blanc-trained chef? Yes, Manor Farm House needs some work, but how exciting it is to look forward to it being ready to move into.ABOUT THE PROPERTYFollowing the tree-lined approach, through 5-bar gates, it's lovely to park on the gravel drive as it widens near the garage and continue on foot, past the magnificent horse chestnut and the superb orchard, seemingly every variety of English apple growing along with greengage, plum and cherry trees.Wander around the expensively-stocked gardens, where popular plants as well as more unusual flowers, shrubs and trees will continue to delight throughout the seasons for years to come. Follow the rose arbour to the copse, an exciting playground for children. Marvel at the moat, which has its own unique story to tell.Your neighbours will occupy barns that used to belong to Manor Farm, currently being transformed into 2 super houses. You'll still have the long barn running alongside the gravel approach to the front of the house. Will you seek to develop it? Will you run your business from it? Just two of many possibilities. And inside the house itself, you will no doubt wish to renovate, to install a new kitchen and bathroom, and certainly heating, maybe even look to extend. But what character, with its heavily timbered walls, what a lovely feeling it has, what flexibility it offers. How perfect for entertaining. What a place to raise a family. C16TH FORMER FARMHOUSE, WITH DETACHED TWO-BEDROOM ANNEXE - AND MUCH MOREA wonderful 4-bedroom, Grade II-listed, timber-framed, former farmhouse, with separate 2-bedroom annexe, in the picturesque, Bedfordshire village of Roxton. A total of over 4500 square feet. As befits a home that dates from the reign of Henry VIII, it has immense character, as well as AGA kitchen, a lovely walled garden, a huge weatherboarded garden room within it, and plenty of driveway parking in the former farmyard. College Farm, thought to be named after Trinity College, Cambridge, is one of those rare homes that is made for multi-generational family living.Historic records describe College Farm as being "Pleasantly situated in its own Pretty Grounds, nicely back from the main Bedford to Saint Neots Road". This is still as it is. Very little traffic passes its electrically controlled, 5-bar wooden driveway gate, or the old oak door set into its garden wall, and that road does allow speedy access to the railway stations at St Neots, 5.5 miles in one direction and Bedford 10.5 miles in the other, home to the world-renowned Harpur Trust private schools (Other top private schools are all within 45 minutes, with Cambridge University less than 30 minutes away). But today, you also have superb motorway links and are close to the Great North Road, which you can nip along to the railway station and catchment secondary school in Sandy, just over 5 miles away, and onward to London. The airport at Stansted and Luton are within easy reach too.And back at home, wander down the lane to Sunday service at the 14th century Church of St Mary Magdalene in its peaceful setting. Walk young children to their little primary school and to the playing fields and play park. Treat yourself to coffee and cake at the Little Acorn Cafe. Pop along to the garden centre and, perhaps, pick up another rose to add to the collection. And your dog will be only too happy to take you for a long walk along the River Great Ouse. You'll love Roxton for walking and cycling. The village is in a great spot for travelling from, but what a lovely place to come home to.MORE ABOUT COLLEGE FARMIt's fascinating to think of the many generations of families that have lived in College Farm since its Tudor origins in 1520. And how it has evolved since those days clues can be seen in old photographs hanging on the walls of the gorgeous sitting room, its lovely oak block floor, fitted oak corner unit and red brick insert to the inglenook fireplace, not to mention the fire's old, wooden bellows, all telling a story.Every room has its own tale to tell. A second, exceptionally peaceful sitting room has another, beautiful, curved brick "Punch" fireplace within the inglenook. Where once the family shovelled coal into a cast iron range in the farmhouse kitchen, you now have the luxury of an oil-fired AGA, as well as induction cooking and Neff ovens.Today's family can breakfast in the kitchen and hold dinner parties in the super, oak-floored dining room, that has not one but two sets of French doors to the terrace, ideal for that summer garden party spread. A brand-new Worcester boiler adds to the open fires to keep the house warm and cosy in winter.Natural light pours in through sliding sash windows. High ceilings add to the feeling of space, not least in the achingly romantic main bedroom, with its vaulted ceiling, open fireplace and, as everywhere, beautiful timbers. Everyone has their own bedrooms to die for, including a teenager's dream at the top of a second staircase. The main landing, with its vaulted ceiling, is a gorgeous room in its own right. Historic records describe College Farm as "Very pretty. No bath.". It's certainly pretty but now has four baths or showers, including one downstairs. It also has a super scullery, and a study with coffee area inside and out.Within its wonderful walled garden, a lawn large enough for a couple of marquees as well as wooden folly, is surrounded by fruit trees, rose and tulip beds, a bluebell wood that's a children's paradise, and a garden room for pool, table tennis, or gym. Or all of them. You decide! And, of course, it has a two-bedroom, detached annexe, which could earn an income or house grandparents. It's a fortunate family indeed that College Farm is now ready to welcome. For more details and to contact: https://realtyww.info/houses_bedfordshire-r740441/for-sale_i71449607
A Grade II* listed house on the site of a former fortified manor house with a moat (an ancient scheduled monument), a tennis court, outbuildings and over 24 acres of gardens and paddocks. Bletsoe Castle was created by John de Patishull, who received a licence to crenellate an existing manor house on the east side of Bletsoe in 1327. In 1421 the house descended to Margaret Beauchamp who married John Beaufort, 1st Duke of Somerset.Their daughter, Margaret Beaufort, mother of the first Tudor King Henry VII, was born in the house in 1443. The house later passed down in the St John of Bletsoe family. In the late 16th or early 17th century, a new building was erected around the castle, quadrangular in design. Much of this later building was pulled down, leaving a much smaller building, but still incorporating parts of the older castle within the older medieval earthworks. The present house is of late 16th century origins and was used as a farmhouse from 1813. Only the outer walls of the original Elizabethan fabric remain. The old moat, which is an ancient scheduled monument, can still be traced for a considerable distance around the old walls of the castle.
